Brunswick County’s District System for Commissioner Elections
As I have traveled throughout Brunswick County, numerous people have asked how our district system for County Commissioner elections works.
Here are the basics in a nutshell:
- In Brunswick County, Commissioners are elected from districts and must live in the district they represent. I am running for the District 5 seat, which covers much of northern Brunswick County. This is different than counties such as New Hanover, where all Commissioners are elected at-large. Click here for a PDF map of our county’s districts.
- While Brunswick County Commissioner candidates must live in the district they seek to represent, they are voted on county-wide. This means that anyone who is eligible to vote in Brunswick County’s Republican Primary can vote in my race, regardless of whether they live in District 5.
- The District 3 and District 5 elections will appear as separate contests on the ballot. This means that you may cast separate votes in the District 3 primary and the District 5 primary.
